The central core gives the 1281 an accuracy and stability not found in competitive tools.

The core of the 1281 are a precisely machined square milled from cast and ground tool platethe most stable aluminum in the world. The stability of the material and the methods we use to machine the core allow us to hold tolerance to .0085°that's within one thousandth of an inch at the far end of the 12-inch blade. To this highly accurate core, Woodpeckers add cheeks to make the base thicker. The combination of the one-piece core with the precision-pinned cheeks can't be matched by squares made with a blade riveted to a separate beam.

The cheeks are narrower than the core by a quarter-inch, forming a shoulder not found in traditional square designs. The shoulder allows the square to rest on the edge of a board without you holding on. Once you've used a Woodpeckers square with the shoulder, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

The hands-free design, the wide stable base for vertical use and the heft and balance of the 1281 combine to make the tool a joy to use, as well as deadly accurate. But we didn't stop with just a great square, we laser engrave scales on both sides of the blade (inch or metric, your choice) to an accuracy of .004" total accumulated error over the entire length of the scale.

When the job is done, your 1281 stores on a wall-mountable Rack-It that keeps your square safe, but always in plain sight and ready for the next project.
