Woodpeckers | MortiseMatch (MORTMATCH)
Woodpeckers new MortiseMatch™ does the same thing for the Festool Domino joiner that a router table does for a router…turning a hand-held power tool into a precision stationary machine. Your Domino mounts to the MortiseMatch and you bring your work to it, instead of taking the Domino to your work. MortiseMatch simplifies working on small stock, keeps your work better aligned to the cutter, and speeds up the mortising process. Mounting takes just seconds, using two machine screws that thread into holes already in the base of your Domino (both models).
Born from Necessity
The idea for the MortiseMatch came about when a few of us were trying to use the Domino on some narrow, mitered frames. There just wasn’t enough surface to balance the Domino and the indexing flaps were too far from the mortise position. We found a few table-mounted ideas online, but they didn’t address the issue of material thickness and their indexing techniques left something to be desired. That’s when we decided it was an idea worthy of development.
Expanded Thickness Positioning
In normal, hand-held use, 10mm (a little over 3/8") is the fixed distance from the base of the Domino to the center of the mortise. The MortiseMatch carriage puts your Domino on a platform that adjusts below the table, taking your minimum center down to 6mm (about 1/4"). That means you can put Dominos in the center of stock as thin as 1/2" and reference from a large, flat table surface. Conversely, the carriage can position the mortise 30mm (about 1-3/16") from the table, allowing you to center on stock 2-3/8" thick, even with the smaller DF-500 Domino. Throughout that range, the Domino always remains parallel with the table surface and two knobs lock it wherever you want.
Mirror Matching
Keeping faces aligned with a hand-held Domino can take some mental gymnastics. It’s very easy to mortise the wrong side of a workpiece. We’ve simplified that process with MortiseMatch. Just make one simple mark on the face of your stock (near one edge), keep the mark facing up and next to the fence and make one mortise on each of your joining pieces. Now flip the Protractor Fence over to the other side of the table and mortise the other end of all joining pieces. It’s that easy. Alignment of the faces and edges is automatic…for both butt joints and mitered joints. What makes this simple procedure work so flawlessly is the Protractor Fence. It uses the indexing pins (or flaps) of the Domino to ensure alignment to the center of the mortise when you flip it over to the other side of the table.
Tailored Fit
MortiseMatch has been engineered to work hand-in-glove with the Domino Joiners. The slots in the table are sized perfectly for track clamps. If you already have track clamps that work with your other Festool tables and tracks, they’ll work with MortiseMatch. As mentioned, the MortiseMatch carriage attaches simply to the Domino, and if you need to use it hand-held while you’re in the middle of a project, it isn’t even necessary to completely remove the carriage from the Domino…just pop out one screw and the assembly comes off and is ready to use with the Domino fence.
The Perfect Couple
If you’re a Domino user, or have been thinking about becoming a Domino user, MortiseMatch completes the picture; simplifying joint alignment, increasing the range of material thickness, working with narrow material (both square and mitered), and taking the weight of the machine off your hands during long production runs. Like all Woodpeckers tools, MortiseMatch is precisely machined and carefully inspected in our Strongsville, Ohio facility (just south of Cleveland).
